Cemetery and Funerals

CAA’s CEMETERY is situated in the Jewish section of Keene’s serene Monadnock View Cemetery (499 Park Avenue). The Jewish section is jointly administered by the CAA Cemetery Committee and the City of Keene and is maintained by the City of Keene. In recognition of the diversity of today’s Jewish community, the Jewish section contains areas for traditional Jewish burials, an area for the interment of non-Jewish spouses and partners, and an area for the burial of cremains.

We encourage making burial arrangements well in advance to spare loved ones from handling administrative tasks during times of grief and distress.

We strive to honor the Jewish custom of burying the dead within 72 hours of death, though circumstances sometimes require a longer wait. Funerals may take place at graveside, at the synagogue, or at a funeral home chapel and are typically arranged in consultation with the funeral home and the rabbi. 

RATE INFORMATION

CAA members in good standing for two years qualify for discounted plot rates. New local residents may prepay two years of membership at the time of purchase to receive this discount. Membership covers facility use for services, rabbinic officiating, and Chevra Kadisha services (shmirah and taharah).

Non-members residing in the region for over two years must pay the full non-member rate and cannot prepay membership for the purpose of obtaining a discounted plot rate. While non-members may rent facilities and hire the rabbi for additional fees, Chevra Kadisha services are subject to volunteer availability and a suggested donation of $1,800 .
