Imagine the sound of BBQ chicken sizzling on the grill as its mouth-watering scent fills the air. With kosher BBQ’d chicken using Charlotte’s Secret Sauce, fresh picked local corn steamed in the husk, rolls, cold drinks and juicy watermelon – this celebration of community, tradition and delicious kosher BBQ is sure to delight all! There will be veggie burgers as well!
Enjoy your meal under the trees with friends and family or order your meal “to go.” And don’t forget about our incredible gift raffles! So much to win including $50 gift cards, toys for kids and more!

Erev Tisha B’Av Service/ Lamentations
Monday, August 12th at 5:30pm
Join us as we read the Book of Lamentations in observance of Tish B’Av, which commemorates the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem. This moving reading takes place in the dark as participants hold candles and sit on the floor, as if in mourning.

The Religious Practices Committee wants to hear from you regarding childcare and children’s services these High Holy Days!
Would you make use of childcare during the first day of Rosh Hashanah and/or the morning of Yom Kippur for your child, grandchild, or great-grandchild infant through 2nd grade?
Would you and your child attend a short children’s service for infants through 2nd grade if offered on the first day of Rosh Hashanah and/or the morning of Yom Kippur at 9:30am?

Send us the name of a person in need of comfort and healing so we can pray for them whenever we recite the Misheberach prayer for healing during our worship services. Please submit a separate form for each person. Please use that same form to let us know when it is appropriate to remove names from this list.
If you add a name to the list, please attend services as you are able and pray along with the community for those in need of healing.

JFNH Annual Meeting and Shem Tov Awards

You’re invited to the JFNH Annual Meeting and Community Shem Tov Awards Sunday evening, August 11th in person or streamed live. The event will be at Bedford Event Center, 379 South River Rd., Bedford, NH 03110
This meeting brings together Jewish community members from around New Hampshire to hear about their past year’s work, what they have planned for the future, and to help celebrate the amazing volunteers that help NH synagogues run.
We’re excited that longtime CAA member, Gary Shapiro will be honored with the Shem Tov award from the JFNH and CAA. Help us celebrate Gary and the many gifts he’s brought to our community- from coordinating our volunteer time at the Keene Community Kitchen to helping to build our sukkah each year, and roasting kosher BBQ chicken at our Annual Kosher Q. Gary has served on the Board of Directors of CAA and has always brought a gentle approach to ensuring our community remembers the Jewish values of social action and he is right there to help us perform a variety of mitzvot. Shabbat Morning Torah Study with Rabbi Dan

We invite you to our (almost) weekly Shabbat Morning Torah Study, led by Rabbi Dan, and sometimes guests.
We read a third of each week’s Torah reading in English and mine it for meaning for our lives today.
Newcomers and people of all abilities are always welcome!

CAA volunteer crew presented to The Community Kitchen on Thursday, July 18, served up a hearty evening meal to about 40 guests, and cleaned up The Kitchen afterward. Thanks to our sterling crew: Jane Taylor, Elaine and Paul Bieber, Gail Giesen, Joe Schapiro, Gary Shapiro.

Cathedral of the Pines Shabbat Morning Service with Lainee Ginsberg and Rabbi Dan
Saturday, August 24th at 10:00am
Join the CAA community for a Shabbat morning service in the natural splendor of Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, NH.
Weather permitting, we’ll sing and pray with an expansive view of Mt. Monadnock in the background. We’ll read from a unique Torah scroll donated by CAA member Barbara Green’s family. Plan on being part of this special service!
Make sure to pack a lunch for yourself to picnic with friends after the service! You will also be able to linger on the Cathedral of the Pines campus and more fully explore its gardens and trails.
Cathedral of the Pines is located at 10 Hale Hill Rd., Rindge, NH, 03461.

A Pigeon and a Boy

The CAA Book Club will next meet on Sunday, September 8th, to discuss A Pigeon and a Boy, a beloved book by the renowned Israeli author Meir Shalev.
To quote Amazon, it is a “mesmerizing novel of two love stories, separated by half a century but connected by one enchanting act of devotion . . . .During the 1948 War of Independence—a time when pigeons are still used to deliver battlefield messages—a gifted young pigeon handler is mortally wounded. In the moments before his death, he dispatches one last pigeon. The bird is carrying his extraordinary gift to the girl he has loved since adolescence. Intertwined with this story is the contemporary tale of Yair Mendelsohn,
who has his own legacy from the 1948 war. Yair is a tour guide specializing in bird-watching trips who, in middle age, falls in love again with a childhood girlfriend. We meet at the synagogue at 10:15 a.m. for coffee, etc. and begin our discussion at 10:30.
